Mr Chen-Wei Tseng

Head of Research

Chen Tseng is the Head of Research at the Financial and Fiscal Commission. He holds a Master in Economics degree from the University of Cape Town. He was the Strategic Research Advisor to the late Chairperson of the Commission, Prof Daniel Plaatjies. His research focuses on the empirical analysis of economic growth and productivity through pricing and costing as it relates to public finance management within the intergovernmental fiscal relations system. His research interests are understanding the impacts of public policy and finance management on economic growth and development, and issues of poverty, inequality and unemployment facing South Africa. Before joining the Commission, he worked as an economist at the Western Cape Provincial Treasury, Fiscal Policy, and was economic advisor to the then Provincial Member of the Executive Council and Finance Minister of the Western Cape.
